Winners of the 2019 SAZACS CCEW Illustrated Poem Contest

The 2019 Chemists Celebrate Earth Week Illustrated Poem Contest on the theme "Take Note: Chemistry of Paper" is now officially over. The Southern Arizona Section of ACS (SAZACS) received over 60 entries in three age categories. The following students were recognized:

  • Esme Curran (1st place in grades 3-5) from Innovation Academy
  • Maddie Decena (honorable mention in grades 3-5) from Innovation Academy
  • Andrew Smith (1st place in grades 6-8) from Agua Caliente Elementary School
  • Jenna Wise (1st place in grades 9-12) from Pusch Ridge Christian Academy
  • Cate Wilson (honorable mention 9-12) from Pusch Ridge Christian Academy

First-place winners received $25.00 gift certificates from SAZACS, and their posters were submitted to the ACS National Competition.

Honorable mention awards consisted of $15.00 gift certificates.

All students who sent their work for the contest received certificates of participation.

On May 20th, the winners of the national contest were announced. Andrew Smith won 1st place in 6-8 grade category. Congratulations.
