The Chemists from SAZACS celebrated the 2022 Chemists Celebrate Earth Week (CCEW) on April 17–23, 2022, under the theme “The Buzz About Bugs: Insect Chemistry.” One of the highlights of the CCEW was the illustrated poem contest organized for the local students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. This cross-curricular activity allowed students to express their creativity while encouraging them to explore the many ways insects in nature can help us or bug us and the exciting chemistry at play in the lives of insects. It also provided an excellent opportunity for students and their schools to be recognized on both state and national levels. More information about the contest, as well as the national-level winners from most reason contests, can be viewed via the links at the bottom of the page.
We received 34 entries in the 3-5 grade category and 58 entries in the 9-12 grade category. The posters were evaluated using ACS- suggested rubric. Judges were Pat Schumann and Dan Donegan.
