2021 Chemists Celebrate Earth Week (CCEW)

On behalf of the Southern Arizona Section of the American Chemical Society (SAZACS) I would like to invite you to participate in the Chemists Celebrate Earth Week (CCEW) from April 18–24 The CCEW is a public awareness campaign that promotes the value of chemistry in everyday life. The 2021 theme is “Reducing Our Footprint with Chemistry.”

One of the highlights of the CCEW is an illustrated poem contest for students in Kindergarten - 12th grade. This cross-curricular activity allows students to express their creativity while learning about chemistry. It is also a great opportunity for students and their school to be recognized on both state and national level. Information about the contest as well as the previous winners can be viewed:
 https://www.acs.org/content/acs/en/education/outreach/ccew/plan-an-event/illustrated-poem-contest.html

The attached flyer describes contest details as well as the criteria for each contest entry. All entries will be judged based upon their relevance to the annual CCEW theme, word choice and imagery, as well as colorful, creative artwork.  Information about the contest will also be provided on SAZACS website.

Submit entries online at bit.ly/CCEWpoems via online forms (K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12).

Please select the Southern Arizona Local Section from the pull-down menu.

SAZACS will award a $25 gift certificate for the best poem in each grade category (K-2nd, 3rd -5th, 6th -8th, 9th -12th).  Winners at the local section level are qualified for the national contest (national awards are $300 for first-place and $150 for second place).
